A little cleaning and maintenance on your vaping device goes a long way. In fact, you’re really improving the lifespan and overall quality of vape, and its parts.
If you’re not interesting in blowing dusty clouds of the ancient Egyptian variety, follow along as we describe the best practices to cleaning your vapes tank, and beyond.
One of the most basic things to do with the vape is, whenever you change out your atomizer, is give your tank a good washing. Run the tank, with the coil removed, under cold water. Rinse it off, let it air dry, and replace the atomizer. This isn’t the most efficient cleaning, but we’re just getting started.
Rule number one: Don't use soap or additional chemicals. These can add harsh tastes to your vape, and now you’re ingesting things you aren’t intended to. It’s imperative to be careful in this regard.
Always thoroughly rinse the empty tank and let air dry. While that requires some patience, you can avoid that step with some simple supplies on hand.
It’s always handy to have some cotton swabs or Q-tips around. You can clean the battery and tank cap quite well with these, picking up excess debris while ensuring the apparatus is dry.
One can dip the cotton swab in water or rubbing alcohol for some additional cleanliness, rubbing alcohol will dissipate naturally over time too, or with some heat application (I.E. Vaping).
Let’s diagnose when and why you might want to clean your tank and then dive into the details:
Flavor Ghosting - This issue is pretty common and can be avoided easily or dealt with, without incurring much damage to the device itself. Still you’re doing yourself a disservice by vaping two e-liquid flavor profiles that weren’t meant to go together.
Flavor ghosting happens when you switch up the e-liquid flavors inside the tank without properly cleaning it first.
Obviously residual flavors are going to buildup within the tank if you’re not practicing some regular hygiene. The first flavor lingers in the background, and now the new flavor is affected, thus wasting your new juice.
The only diagnoses for this problem is a proper cleaning of your tank before switching up the e-juice.
Foreign Objects in the Tank: Unless you’re in lab-grade clean rooms, vaping and building computer chips for Microsoft (probably unlikely) assembling your vape and disassembling it will never be a totally sterile process. It’s just the nature of building vapes.
Other issues include, but aren’t limited to:
Poor tasting flavors
Atomizer performance isn’t up to par
Air-circulation seems off
Prominent burnt taste
Regardless of the hygiene you’re practicing, this device is something that you’re hands touch and sits in your pocket, so lint can be a factor, or just run of the mill germs that stash themselves in the crevices of the vape.
Remember that the vape device is something you put your mouth on, so let’s make sure this thing gets cleaned properly.
Here’s a few of the things one will need to clean their vape:
Cleaning Cloth or Paper Towels
Your Sub-Ohm Tank or Atomizer
A Replacement Coil
Vodka (Optional, but enjoyable on another scale)
First, make sure you’re not adding any e-juice to the cleaning solution by emptying or vaping it prior to cleaning. Once the tank is emptied, go ahead and disassemble the tank and begin placing each individual piece of the tank into a bowl of warm water, aside from the used coil.
Stir the solution, and make sure to cover all the components that you’re cleaning.
Get another container with one part water, another part vodka or rubbing alcohol. Then transfer the components into the new vodka solution.
This solution will help to disinfect the tank.
Just be safe, wash away the residual alcohol, then, taking your toothbrush or cotton swab, start to clean anything that’s threaded. This is where a lot of debris likes to hide.
When start to look much more clean, then grab your some kind of a towel and begin drying off the components for a new and optimum vape.
Cleaning should be performed on a regular basis. Ideally, clean your tank whenever you switch e-juice flavors; Don’t want to mix contrasting flavors in your tank.
Even if your flavor choice is typically consistent, a thorough cleaning keeps your tank in like-new condition and ensures your vaping experience is on it’s best foot forward.
Now we’re confident that your tank is clean, hygienic and delivering the flavor you’d hoped for. If not, check out some of our vape gear and make the proper adjustments to your device. There’s always room for improvements.
